Dogosterone™ Therapy
What is Dogosterone™ Therapy and How Does it Work?
Dogosterone™ Therapy is a skilled treatment method that involves the injection of testosterone to increase your pet’s ability to get around. As a hormone, testosterone maintains both muscle mass and bone density, but dogs that have been neutered or spayed have absolutely none. Dogosterone™ Therapy treatments will vary by dog, their condition and severity of the symptoms. Before treatment begins, a full evaluation of your pet is completed to determine if your pet is a candidate.
The initial evaluation is necessary to ensure that the dog is healthy and there are no additional underlying issues. The evaluation includes a full blood panel, full body x-rays, and a testosterone level, and typically ranges from $650 to $750 depending on the breed and weight.
Once your dog has received their initial evaluation and is cleared for treatment, the dog will receive an injection of testosterone based on weight. The injections is typically given every 3 weeks for the rest of the pet’s life, and costs around $50 per injection, depending on weight. Lab work will be required to make sure the treatment is working and to test testosterone levels.
Improvement is typically seen within the first 1-3 months.
The injections must be administered in clinic since it is a controlled drug. In order for your dog to receive treatment, you must live locally and be willing and able to come to our office every 3 weeks.
