Microchip Identification

A lost pet is a frightening situation with often devastating consequences. Studies have shown more than 10 million pets get lost each year and approximately 90 percent of those found would not have been returned to their owners without some form of permanent lost-pet identification.

Hearthstone Animal Clinic recommends that all pets receive a lost pet microchip ID. The microchip—which is about the size of a grain of rice—is painlessly injected into the skin of your pet, usually between the shoulder blades. The microchip contains a unique identification number that is linked to a database with important information about your pet, including your contact information. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned by animal control officers, at shelters, and at veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and in several foreign countries.

A microchip lost pet ID is permanent and all pets brought into an animal hospital or humane shelter are routinely scanned so that they may be returned to their owner.
